University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is a new kind of university focused on training the next generation of global leaders in health care delivery. The university launched in Rwanda in September 2015 with its flagship degree program : the Master of Science in Global Health Delivery (MGHD). Through an academic experience uniquely rooted in the values of equity, students are empowered to both ease suffering at the bedside and drive transformational, systemic changes to the health system.
UGHE is an initiative of Partners In Health (PIH), an internationally recognized non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. In over nearly three decades of operating alongside public sectors in countries around the world, PIH has developed a model to deliver high quality healthcare to some of the world’s most marginalized communities. The Academic Programs Coordinator will provide high level support to the MGHD, and UGHE’s diverse executive education programs. Working closely with the Teaching and Learning Team, the Academic Programs Coordinator will undertake project management and support the admissions process as well as the development, execution, monitoring, and reporting of the MGHD and executive education programs.
The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is highly self-motivated and passionate about higher education and global health with superior attention to detail and organizational skills. The Academic Programs Coordinator will have experience with a wide range of academic and administrative tasks, have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and have mastered effective communication. The Academic Programs Coordinator will interact with staff at all levels and across offices, as well as important external constituents. S/he must be exceedingly well organized, diplomatic, flexible, resourceful, and proactive. The Academic Programs Coordinator must exhibit great discretion, handle confidential matters with the utmost care, and possess a high level of sophistication in managing complex issues.
• Support academic processes and programs related to courses, faculty, students, and alumni development.
• Manage programmatic logistics to support academic experiences such as week-long and weekend learning intensives, evening courses, and related events.
• Coordinate logistics for and support events and processes related to recruitment, admissions, scholarships, matriculation, and graduation for the MGHD and executive education programs.
Academic event and information management
• Serve as the first point of contact for prospective MGHD and executive education learners.
• Manage and generate reports and content for internal and external audiences derived from academic programmatic data.
• Experience working with adult learners and faculty.
• Experience supporting academic admission and scholarship processes, products, and timelines.
• Experience working in Rwanda or in other relevant contexts.
• Familiarity with health science and/or global health education and training.
• Demonstrable work experience in an administrative, executive assistant, or personal assistant role in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in event planning or proven skills to organize and execute logistics.
• The ability to manage, to organize, to develop plans and to generate data to make decisions.
• Exemplary interpersonal skills ; ability to effectively collaborate with culturally diverse staff across departments and countries.
• Possess diplomatic instincts, ability to gracefully and humbly work within challenging professional contexts requiring tact and judgment.
• Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical skills, good judgment, and creative problem-solving.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent computer skills with fluency in Excel, all Microsoft Office Suite programs, Google products, and admissions and student management systems as well as the ability to learn new computer programs quickly.
• Fluency in English required ; French and Kinyarwanda language skills desirable
• Bachelor’s degree in education, health, social science, business, humanities, or in another relevant field ; master’s degree preferred.
• Interest is social justice strongly desirable.
